Life has been so busy and with a lot of change, which has made me get a little (Or a lot) behind on blogging! So happy to get back to sharing some beautiful sessions!
I'm happy to share Jason and Ashley's beautiful wedding day! Their wedding day was set on Jason's family land which just added to the beauty of the day. One of my favorite parts of the wedding day was that they had their sweet dogs in the wedding party! I love it when I see that as a dog lover :)
They also had their reception under a white tent, which was made extra special with the long tables lined with lit candles and greenery.

I had the fun of meeting Brent and Lexi a few months back when we did their engagement session at Sweetwater Creek, seriously such a sweet couple and was so happy to be able to photograph their gorgeous wedding day! Their wedding day was absolutely perfect! Such a blessing because leading up to the wedding it was raining cats and dogs and then completely cleared and became the perfect day for their outdoor ceremony! They added so many fun details to their wedding from flip flops for their guests to be comfy on the dance floor to custom cozies with a cartoon Brent and Lexi with their wedding date! Such a sweet touch to the ceremony was that Lexi's Grandpa married Brent and Lexi, so special!
During the Father of the bride speech, he was talking to Brent about the special gift that he has entrusted to Brent on their wedding day and his love for this gift, such a beautiful moment. He then pulls out a baseball card from the year Lexi was born and gives it to Brent joking that the baseball card was what he was talking about all along.

What drew you to start Grain and Oak?
Emily and I were preparing for our Wedding in 2016 and Emily was still in college when I decided to start our wooden watch business. I had various jobs before, but knew entrepreneurship was always my calling, so a couple months before the big day I decided to quit my job and launch a wooden watch business. I always loved working with my hands and creating decor for Emily’s dream rustic wedding so I knew that I was a quick learner and I knew how to create custom pieces so launching our engraving business was the logical next step for me! We’ve been learning and growing every day and proud to offer the highest quality Men's Wood Watches, Leather Money clips, and Wood Apple Watch bands available. Each available with unique individual personalization delicately engraved to make each gifting experience unforgettable for our customers.
What's the most satisfying aspect of your work?
Emily: I thoroughly enjoy the personalization process. We’ve engraved a lot of watches over the years, and my favorite pieces are handwritten engravings. The engravings of kids handwriting to their dad almost bring me to tears everytime! I know that the dad will cherish their gift and to be part of that process of creating that jaw dropping moment drives me to keep showing up and working hard to grow this business.
Mike: I enjoy creating one of a kind pieces for our customers and going the extra mile to ensure they are happy with their purchase. The creative freedom we have to launch new products and create custom designs has been extremely rewarding.
What's your favorite style that you currently offer?
Emily: My favorite style is our line of zebra wood watches. I love this wood type because each watch has its own unique wood grain and it’s like each watch has its own personality!
Mike: My favorite style is our leather money clips. I love the one I have and love seeing the natural aging of the leather overtime.
What would you consider your trademark to be?
Something we use in our personal lives for a gift shopping strategy during any event, celebration, etc is “Give Better Gifts”. This helps remind ourselves to really think about giving a gift to someone that has meaning, could bring joy, happiness, and even add value. We incorporate this into our business, by offering a product line that is unique and adds sentimental value by offering personalization on all of our pieces.
How many years have you been in the industry?
This Summer will be our 4th year in business!
How did you get your start in the wedding industry?
We actually started into the wood watch business in 2015 by trying to find the perfect groomsmen gifts for our upcoming wedding. Mike has always had an entrepreneurship mind set and obviously the most logical thing to do was to quit his job and launch a wood watch business! We have grown along with our business and are happy to offer a great gift for our couples looking for a sentimental gift for their wedding party :)
When you're not working, what's your favorite pastime?
We recently just took up pickleball and are super huge fans! It was easy to learn and we enjoy meeting up with friends after work for matches. Plus, you get a nice workout without even knowing it! Mike is an avid pilot and enjoys flying any chance he gets. I do not enjoy this nearly as much as him :)
What's your favorite place you've traveled to?
In college, we traveled to the Grand Canyon together. It by far, was our favorite trip and we still reminisce about it to this day. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery around the area as well as the breathtaking views of getting up close to such a massive but magical landmark in Arizona’s red rocks.
What's one thing on your bucket list?
We want to take a long trip out West and visit Yellow Stone. We loved our trip to Arizona, and would love to be able to go back and explore the states that Yellow Stone crosses over. Of course, Mike is adamant about flying us out there himself, I’m yet to be convinced…

Will and Sam are such an awesome couple and their wedding day was perfection! They chose to get married in Georgia making it easy for all their family and friends who are spread all over the US to meet them (Will and Sam live in gorgeous Colorado!) It was a joy photographing their day and getting to know them better and talking about their sweet pups! (I always want to hear about the fur babies of course!) Every little detail of the reception was gorgeous! From the intimate dinner with their friends and family, the cute kiddos on the dance floor, sliders for a to go snack and the gorgeous candle lit tables.. so much heart was put into this wedding!

What drew you to be a wedding coordinator?
I have always loved hospitality since the time I was little going around serving my brothers tea and crackers. When I was old enough to plan and throw parties I looked for every opportunity. My draw toward being a wedding coordinator is very much a natural one. However, I will say my biggest draw was helping my mother with her business as a florist and getting to know more about the wedding industry.
What’s the most satisfying aspect of your work?
Being able to take the stress off the bride and groom and see them truly enjoy their wedding day.
Do you have a favorite wedding style to work with?
I am always for working any style as I truly love to hear the different ideas that come from my clients. However, I tend to gravitate towards a vintage and romantic styled wedding.
What would you consider your trademark to be?
I love to execute the bride and groom’s wedding as they envision it so that is uniquely planned according to their taste and personality. I like for every wedding to have originality and personal touches of the bride and groom.
How did you get your start?
About 5 years ago I shadowed Molly Mckinley Designs, a wedding planner in Atlanta, and began gaining knowledge and experience within the wedding industry. That same year, I coordinated two weddings for my friends.
When you’re not working what’s your favorite pastime?
Spending quality time with family or friends. I love to go out for coffee or go for a walk outside with those I love.
Favorite place you’ve traveled to?
By far Lucerne, Switzerland. You can’t beat a beautiful view of a lake surrounded by luscious green mountains.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
To plan a wedding in Ireland. Ireland is such a beautiful place and I would love to have the opportunity to view and be a part of a wedding
that embraces the culture of my heritage.

So excited to introduce you to Kaycee Owens of Roots mobile Coffee Bar! I can speak from experience at how amazing Roots Coffee is and was so excited to showcase Kaycee and Kellen's business this month! Kaycee and her husband Kellen are passionate about serving hand-crafted, quality espresso to their community. They started Roots Coffee, a fully mobile coffee bar, to provide this unique service for weddings and special events. They create custom menus and drinks to fit the theme of the occasion. This husband-wife duo would love to make your special day even better with a latte! What's the story behind roots coffee? Specifically with weddings?
I managed a coffee shop in Louisville, KY for three years. When my husband and I decided to move back to our hometown in Fayetteville, GA, I couldn't imagine my life without ever pouring a latte again. There weren't many specialty coffee shops on the southside of Atlanta, so we toyed with the idea of opening our own shop. But we were just starting a family and I knew personally the major commitment running a coffee shop requires.
We began brainstorming a way to still be able to make coffee, but on a more manageable timetable. Food trucks had been getting really popular at the time, but had many limitations due to space and size, but it gave me the idea of a fully mobile bar. In 2015 we took out a small business loan and launched Roots Coffee. The name seemed appropriate since we are both from this area and felt like we were moving back to our roots while simultaneously setting roots down as a family.
We've done a variety of events over the past four years, but weddings have been the most consistent. Our mobile coffee bar is a unique experience for guests and being able to celebrate the beauty of marriage by making lattes is a dream come true for me.
What's the most satisfying aspect of your work?
Coffee is not just a beverage, but the continuation of a story that began at the place of origin and ends with the customer's enjoyment. Having the full perspective of this incredible commodity motivates and excites me. Every step of the process of coffee, from planting, to harvesting, to processing, to grading, to roasting, to preparing and finally, to serving should be done with integrity and care. I am a small part of this story, but I get to share it with my community and see the fruition of the labors of so many.
What's your personal go to coffee?
I do a pour-over drip coffee every morning, but my favorite drink is an 8 oz americano. I think the ratio of espresso to water is perfect at that size. I like to drink it black or with heavy cream from my friend's dairy cow.
What would you consider your trademark to be?
There are a lot of people who are good at making coffee, but terrible at talking to people. There are lots of people that are great at customer service but terrible at making coffee. I thrive when the two are together. I love people, I love talking to them and learning about them. But this "people loving" is somehow heightened as I'm making them their drink. I don't know if that's a trademark, but I do know it's a unique gift.
How many years have you been in the industry? How did you get your start?
We started our mobile bar in 2015, but I've been in the specialty coffee world since 2011, when my husband and I moved to Louisville, KY. We both needed to get part time jobs while we were in seminary, and for someone reason I knew I wanted to be a barista. My main knowledge about coffee at the time had been Starbucks, so I applied at multiple locations. They are a big company, so it takes a while to get contacted back through their system, so in my impatience, I walked the street nearby our apartment and found a local coffee shop called Vint. I was hired on the spot and promoted as the manager three months later. I am still so thankful that Starbucks didn't get back to me quickly. Had I been hired there, I would have been a "barista" but I would have missed so much about coffee. Vint was a specialty coffee shop and brought me into this world of coffee culture I didn't know existed. I was suddenly thrust into latte art competitions, coffee exhibitions and intense espresso tastings. Not only did a I learn about coffee, I also learned how much a coffee shop can shape a neighborhood and community. I wasn't merely a barista to my customers, I was a friend and a source of comfort. It means to much to people to be known, to remember their name and how they like their drink, to care about their most recent paper in medical school, to cry with them over the lost of a loved one. It might seem like a seemingly small, insignificant occupation, but the work of a barista can have a lasting impact on people. I loved every minute of my time at Vint and am still so thankful for that amazing experience.
When you're not working what's your favorite pass time?
My husband and I have other jobs besides Roots...our mobile coffee bar is what we do in our pass time :) But we also have two young boys and a small homestead with chickens, goats, bees and a garden, so we stay busy with all our little creatures. Making sourdough bread is another passion of mine.
Favorite place you've traveled to?
That's hard! We've traveled a lot throughout the years. Since we are talking about coffee, I would say that Ethiopia is my favorite. Ethiopia is where coffee was the first discovered and it's also where we adopted our second son. It holds a special place in our hearts.
What's one thing on your bucket list?
The main thing on our bucket list right now is to go to India to bring home our daughter that we are adopting (hopefully this summer)! She's 2.5 years old and her parents and brothers are anxious to meet her and make her a part of our family. Other than that, we are looking forward to hiking into Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon as our last big trip before we become a family of five.
